WHAT IS WEPA?

WEPA is the Willoughby Environmental Protection Association Inc. We are a non-party community group with an interest in preserving Willoughby’s natural heritage, protecting local bushland and wildlife and mitigating the impacts of pollution in our locality.

While our primary interest is the City of Willoughby on Sydney’s North Shore, our members are also involved with environmental matters at state and National levels with a particular focus on addressing climate change and protecting biodiversity nationally.

WEPA believes that the quality of the surrounding environment plays a critical role in everyday lives, our well-being and that of our community. At a time when our neighbourhoods, urban tree canopy, bushland, parks, wetlands, rivers and bays are under increasing pressure from overdevelopment and poor planning there is an ever greater need for community oversight and action.

We encourage you to work with us in these campaigns. Join the WEPA community today!

NEXT MEETING

WEPA invites you to join urban ecologist Dr Peter Davies for a talk and discussion on  ‘Where is our urban forest’?

One of Willoughby City Council’s priorities is to increase our tree canopy coverage.  How will it do this when trees are still contested?

Dr Davies believes that behind every green city is a contest of values and beliefs about trees, where they are planted, their maintenance and their removal.  The reconciliation of these different viewpoints will shape the character of Willoughby now and well into the future.

Where: School Hall, Glenaeon Primary School, 121 Edinburgh Road, Castlecrag NSW
When: 7:00pm Tuesday 17 September.

Entry free but gold coin donations appreciated.

Join us for refreshments after the event.
