WEPA’s 40th Birthday Picnic – more details

We would like to invite you, your family and friends to join us for WEPA’s 40th birthday picnic which is being held to celebrate the four decades since our first public meeting.

When: 12 noon to 2:30pm, Sunday 16 October

Where: Flat Rock Gully (enter via Small Street, Willoughby or via the tunnel under Flat Rock Drive).

Our picnic site in Flat Rock Gully is where WEPA held its big public protest in 1989 against the tipping of fill and rubbish in the bush gully. We later supported Willoughby City Council’s rehabilitation of the bush at the edge of the valley. A nearby wildlife walk from the top of the site is named after Eric Wilksch, our inaugural President.

The event will also be one of the many ‘picnics for nature’ being organised around NSW on that day by the Nature Conservation Council NSW.

We will have stalls, speakers, give-aways, a birthday cake and other activities.  Members, friends and neighbours are all encouraged to join in.

Think about carpooling or taking public and active transport to join us.  Bring your hats, picnic lunch and a blanket.

We are crossing our fingers with regard to the weather.  If wet weather is forecast, check our website on the Saturday or Sunday morning before the event and we can alert you to our fall-back plan.

We look forward to seeing you and celebrating WEPA and our wonderful local bushland together!
