PRESENTATION 22 Nov: CLIMATE CHANGE – WHERE TO NEXT?

It is an exciting time for climate policy in Australia with the recent passage of the Climate Change Act 2022. However, the critical task of tackling climate change may begin, but does not end, with legislating targets but must steer through a multitude of reforms at all levels of Government.

So, where do we go next?  WEPA has invited Rachel Walmsley, the Head of Policy and Law Reform at the Environmental Defenders Office to join us at our next online General Meeting to speak on the EDO’s Roadmap for Climate Reform.  There are many innovative and necessary solutions to the climate crisis and establishing strong national climate law is the foundation for success.  Rachel will outline the 5 opportunities and associated recommendations for Australia to get this right.

Rachel Walmsley has 20 years’ experience working on public interest environmental policy and law reform. She is a member of government and non-government advisory committees on biodiversity, natural resource and environment issues, a legal advisor to the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists, legal advisor to the Places You Love alliance on national law reform, and guest lectures in environmental law.
