Call for volunteers – Save Flat Rock Gully

WEPA Member, John Moratelli, at the Stop the Tunnel stall at Henry Lawson Cave, Bicentennial Reserve last Saturday

As you would have seen in our most recent WEPA Bulletin,* we have been working with the Stop the Tunnel group to oppose the proposed destruction of Flat Rock Gully bushland (between Willoughby and Naremburn) for the Northern Beaches car tunnel.

Last Saturday a number of members volunteered to be on a stall at Henry Lawson Cave on the Bicentennial Reserve pathway to alert users and community members to the proposed destruction of Flat Rock Gully bushland and to gather signatures on the community petition.

We had lots of signatures and, just as importantly, reached many people who had not even heard about the proposal!

The stall was such a success that we plan to continue it each Saturday in November.  This is where you come in.  Could you spare 2 hours one Saturday in November to be on the stall, hand out information and gather signatures?  We plan to have 2 people on the stall in two hourly slots from 8am to 6pm.

If you are available this Saturday (3 November) we are also seeking volunteers to collect petition signatures at the Glenaeon Fair at 121 Edinburgh Road, Castlecrag.  We are seeking people for two hourly slots from 10am to 4pm.

If you can help, please ring Meredith on 0438 890 902 or email  We have quite a few slots to fill – if you can do more than one let Meredith know.

Can you volunteer 2 hours in November to help stop this atrocious proposal, save our precious local bushland, fight against more traffic on our roads and prevent further pollution in our suburbs?

  1. I am appalled the NSW Government is considering destroying such a beautifully restored native bushland area with an unnecessary transport option that will benefit corporate interests.
